M-203 Grenade Launcher

History:

The M203 was the only part of the army’s flechette rifle project to go into production. The M203 has been in service since 1969 and was introduced to U.S. military forces during the early 1970s. It replaced the older M79 grenade launcher. And other conceptually similar Colt XM148 design. However, while the M79 was a separate weapon entirely, the M203 was designed as a rifle attachment in order to increase the efficiency at which a soldier could alternate between bullet fire and HE grenade fire.

It is sometimes thought that the M203 was a poor replacement for the M79, as while the M79 was quick to reload and more or less accurate under adverse conditions, such as in the Vietnam War, the M203 was more difficult and awkward to operate, and could be sent off-target more easily by variables such as a gust of wind.

A new grenade launcher in development, the XM320, will likely replace the 203 in United States service eventually. The XM320 is lighter than the M203, and has other benefits such as an unobstructed side-loading breech.

The 40 mm grenades used in the M203 (40 x 46 mm) are not the same as in the Mk 19 grenade launcher (40 x 53 mm), which are fired at a higher velocity.

Review:

The M-203 is amazing I have always carried this weapon on deployments! There is no better feeling then being able to reach out and touch something at distance with explosive rounds! The M-203 is a pump action meaning you have to release the barrel, slide it forward and bring it back to closed locked position to cock the weapon. Breach loaded meaning “Receiving the charge at the breech instead of at the muzzle.” Single shot think that pretty self explanatory only loads one round at a time. 40mm grenade launcher, There are many typed of rounds for the M-203 ranging from HEDP (High Explosive Dual Purpose) to Flairs and Riot round. for training we use power round that a filled with orange power they don’t explode instead they just burst and spill a cloud of orange mist the round are pretty fragile and sometimes burst before leaving the barrel and you wind up looking like a cheeto at the end of the training day. The weapons has less of a kick then a shotgun but still has some bite too it. The action of loading and firing the weapon is as simple as can be. Just load and shoot. the sights are little tricky is you left handed because the Quadrant sight is only on the left of the weapon so you’re better off using the leaf sight if you’re a lefty. depending on the round you are using the “kill zone” can be big or small but 5 meter is a good buffer to say your pretty much dead if it hit around the target. all and all I have put about 100’s of training round down range , and fired about 4 ish live round while deployed and I love this weapon system.

Review:

Well being in the military and a Security Forces member this weapon I am very familiar with. I am a huge fan of the M-4. It does not have the Range like the M-16 but everything else is pretty much the same except for the rail system of the m-4 which allows for many attachments. I have fired so many rounds through my m-4 I can’t even begin to count. It performs great have only had malfunctions due to crappy mags or dirty weapon It has a Max range of 36,000 meter Point targets would be 500 meters and Area targets 600 meters. We have 3 types of sights on our weapons which are m68 (Aimpoint) reflex sight ACOG and Iron sights. With the aim point you get good reflex and sight picture. ACOG give you extended range and precision accuracy with good fundamentals. And Iron sights are considered backup systems.

Springfield Armory XD 45ACP

History:

The XD traces its roots back to a service pistol known as the PHP, which was first produced in Croatia by privately owned industrial parts firm I.M. Metal in 1991. Designed by a team led by Marko Vuković, the PHP was considered to be a solid design, but early versions were plagued by quality issues, due in large part to the difficulties of manufacturing during a liberation war.Vuković’s team continued to tweak and improve the design over the next decade, releasing the HS95 (Hrvatski Samokres or “Croatian Pistol”) in 1995, and the HS2000 in 1999.

The HS2000 was adopted by the Croatian military and law enforcement as their standard issue sidearm, and continues to fill that role today. In addition, the pistol was exported to the US market by Intrac and distributed by HSAmerica, which sold the pistol in 9mm as the HS2000, and started to gain a reputation as a cost-effective, reliable, and innovative new firearm.

In 2002, Springfield Armory, Inc. secured the licensing rights to the US market, and rebranded the pistol as the XD-9 (X-treme Duty 9×19 mm). Since that time Springfield Armory has expanded the line to include five different calibers, three different barrel lengths, and four finishes (Black, Bi-Tone, Olive Drab frame, and the newest Dark Earth frame). Due in part to Springfield Armory’s aggressive marketing and competitive pricing, but also to the pistol’s inherent quality and features, it has consistently gained in both reputation and market share over the last five years. The introduction of the XD-45 (in the extremely popular .45 ACP caliber) in January of 2006 has made the XD the “most talked about handgun” in the eyes of many interested shooters. The industry press took notice as well, awarding the XD-45 the title of “Handgun of the Year” from both American Rifleman magazine and the Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence.

Review:

The XD was the first pistol that i bought. I did allot of thinking before I bought it I was torn between a Glock and the XD I went with the XD because 13 Rounds of 45ACP it don’t get much better then that! Fully loaded it’s not too heavy but once you shoot it you feel its full power and know you’re shooting a 45! The XD is a great pistol I have nothing but good things to say about the XD some people I talk to don’t like it but I doo. It’s easy to field strip as far as detail strip I am unaware of how to doo that as of yet! I have fired over 1000 rounds out of my XD and have had no malfunctions yet(*read below)! It has dual Mag releases that make it easy to release the mag from either side. It Has a Round in chamber indicator. A Firing pin “status” indicator so you know if you need to recycle the weapon to fire. The newer versions of the weapon are going to have a manuel safety aside from the grip safety and the trigger safety and the firing pin block that are already on the pistol. But all in all shot wise and handling of the weapon I have been impressed with the XD I recommend it to anyone!

Malfunctions:
Well I went and got a box of the New Winchester SXZ training ammo picture below. I got a box of 100 and when I was at the range shooting every other round was miss feeding! the round would try to chamber but wind up getting wedged facing down ward in the Mag I think it was more the rounds snub nose rather than the gun but let me know if any of you have had any issues?

H&K USP .40

Info:
Well i got my hands on a H&K USP .40 S&W if you know guns you should know H&K. The USP design was first introduced in 1993 made from molded polymer frame and steel slide .Outside metal surfaces, such as the steel slide are protected by a proprietary “Hostile Environment” nitride finish. Internal metal parts, such as springs, are coated with an anti-corrosion chemical to reduce friction and wear.

The USP is the base of the Mk 23 Mod 0, a .45 ACP handgun designed by Heckler & Koch for the USSOCOM. The frame and slide of the USP45 are slightly larger than those found on the USP40 and USP9, much like the Mk 23. The prominent oversize trigger guard allows the use of gloves when firing.

Spec’s:

  • Frame: Polymer
  • Slide: Steel
  • Weight: 748 g (1.65 lb) W/O Mag
  • Height: 136 mm (5.35 in)

  • Barrel Length: 108 mm (4.25 in)
  • Rate Of Fire: Semi-Automatic

Review:

Well I have always liked H&K! So when I got my H&K USP .40 I couldn’t wait to shoot it. I didn’t get a chance to shoot it until a week later and man that was a long wait! But boy was it worth it! I have shoot many of weapons and own many weapons and none of my weapons have impressed me more than this H&K’s first shot was a dead bang bulls eye right in center on a target about 10 meters away! I shot 2 more well aimed shots and the spread was less than a 1in. After the first shots I tried some double taps all shots were less then 2in apart. So the weapon was shooting pretty good I tried to make the weapon jam or miss feed firing it in awkward positions too close to the wall sideways and slightly coving the ejection port. No jam or miss feed but I’ll post back on any jams etc when I get them. Over all I put 250 rounds through the weapon and it was an enjoyable experience.

Glock 19 9mm

Info:

Other then the M-16/4 AK and 1911 if you ask someone to name a weapon most people would say Glock. So I went with the crowd and bought a Glock. I wanted something concealable and not to big so I went with the Glock 19 9mm. This model was first produced in 1988.It is a reduced size version of the Glock 17.

Spec’s:

  • Length: 174mm (6.85in)
  • height: 127 mm (5.00 in)
  • width: 30 mm (1.18 in)
  • Barrel Length: 102mm (4.01in)
  • Magazine Capacity: 15 rounds 9×19mm
  • Weight(unloaded): 595g (21oz)
  • weight(loaded): 850 g (29.98 oz)
  • Trigger Pull: 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs)
  • Size: Compact

Review:

Well I have heard that Glock is this awesome pistol so I had to check it out for myself so I went and got a Glock 19 9×19(9mm) got a pretty good deal on it so I was happy. Took it to the range so I could put some rounds through it and see how it stacks up! Well All in all the weapons shoots great a whole hell of a lot better than the Standard issue pistol I have to carry Berreta 9mm. Smooth recoil allowing for a better fallow up shot if needed. I put about 200 rounds through the weapons in awkward positions to see if it would jam or miss fire No malfunctions at all! The only things that i didn’t like was the sight system I prefer a 3 dot system rather than the “Box” style sights that comes standard on all Glocks. But that is an easy fix for a few bucks. Also a good upgrade to have would be the extended slide release lever because the standard on is a little too small. But all in the entire pistol is easy to shoot. The take down/ cleanup is simple to you can either do a field strip or a detailed strip with ease!
